2023/2024 MEXT Scholarship Program by the Japanese Government

The Japanese Government, through the Monbukagakusho: MEXT scholarship program, established in 1954, offers various categories of scholarships to foreign students. These categories include research students (144,000-145,000 JPY/month), teacher training students (143,000 JPY/month), undergraduate students (117,000 JPY/month), Japanese studies students (117,000 JPY/month), and others.

Eligibility Criteria | Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship 2023/2024:
The eligibility criteria for the Japanese Government (MEXT) scholarship program differ depending on the application mode. There are three ways to apply for the scholarships: embassy recommendation, university recommendation, or domestic selection.

Embassy recommendation: Each year, scholarship recipients are selected by Japanese embassies or consulate generals in respective countries. For more details, please contact your local Japanese embassy or consulate general.
University recommendation: Each year, Nagasaki University recruits graduate students from overseas and recommends selected candidates to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.
Domestic selection: Privately financed foreign students (undergraduate and graduate) currently enrolled at Nagasaki University are eligible for this scholarship. Every year, Nagasaki University recommends selected candidates to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. Please contact the Liaison Center for International Education office for further information, as undergraduate students may not be eligible in some cases.
