ENROLL: 2023 UNITAR United Nations Initiative Offering Vital Digital Skills Training for Women and Youth

The UNITAR initiative, aimed at Developing Essential Digital Skills, has been established to bolster Food Security and provide support for Economies that are resilient to Climate Change.

Women and young individuals from 24 African nations are encouraged to enroll in the UNITAR program titled “Enhancing Employment Opportunities and Livelihood Development in the Digital Economy: Developing Essential Digital Skills for Women and Youth in Africa.” This comprehensive six-month program equips participants with in-demand digital skills, enabling them to enhance their employability and income-generating potential. Additionally, the program nurtures the development of socially responsible digital startups, enhances leadership and entrepreneurial capabilities, and fosters innovation within their communities.

Scholarship Requirements:
The program prioritizes participants from 24 African countries, including Botswana, Burundi, Eritrea, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Gambia, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Malawi, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. Women and youth are encouraged to apply, regardless of age, with an interest in development and information technologies. Proficiency in English, computer literacy, and access to a laptop/internet are prerequisites. The program seeks individuals interested in leveraging digital technology for opportunities, those who wish to make a positive impact on their communities, and those committed to the program’s completion. University graduates with tech-savviness and a recommendation letter are preferred.

Program Phases:

  • Phase I – Online Training (September to December 2023): Self-paced e-modules, webinars, online coaching, and mentoring support.
  • Phase II – Self-led Projects and Virtual Boot Camp (December 2023 to January 2024): Selection based on performance, self-led projects, virtual boot camps addressing development challenges.
  • Phase III – Sustainability and Community Leadership Training (February 2024): Further training on community-building and leadership skills, creating a network of trainers for future cohorts.
