Fellowship Summary:
The NNPC/TotalEnergies MIT-Empowering the Teachers Program offers an extraordinary opportunity for Nigerian faculty members to experience a semester at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). This teaching-focused fellowship, supported by MISTI, NNPC Limited, and TotalEnergies Upstream Nigeria Limited (TUPNI), aims to contribute to Nigeria’s socio-economic development by fostering quality education through partnerships with renowned local and international academic institutions.
Fellowship Details:
The MIT-ETT program is a laboratory for innovation in engineering education, with the goal of creating impactful transformations in the Nigerian tertiary academic sphere. It focuses on developing new curricula and teaching methods in disciplines such as Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, and Geophysics. Selected fellows will spend a semester at MIT, observing classes, developing new curricular materials, and attending seminars on curriculum design and MIT cultural aspects.
Fellowship Requirements:
To apply for the MIT-ETT program, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be interested in developing new curricula and teaching methods and consider themselves change-agents.
- Hold a PhD and be a faculty member in a Nigerian university teaching Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, or Geophysics.
- Hold a Lecturer One rank.
Fellowship Duration and Reward:
Selected fellows will spend a semester at MIT, either in Spring 2024 (February-May 2024) or Fall 2024 (September-December 2024). During their time at MIT, fellows will observe classes, develop new curricular materials, and attend seminars. The MIT-ETT program will cover basic travel, living, and instructional materials expenses, and the home universities of successful applicants must provide paid leave of absence during the MIT program.
