The University of Birmingham is celebrating its 125th anniversary by launching a scholarship initiative specifically for Black British researchers pursuing doctoral studies. This program aims to support up to 12 talented Black postgraduate research students starting in Autumn 2024.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Applicants must identify as belonging to one of the following ethnic groups:
  • Black African
  • Black Caribbean
  • Black Other
  • Mixed – White and Black Caribbean
  • Mixed – White and Black African
  • Other mixed backgrounds including Black African, Black Caribbean, or Black Other.
  • Must be classified as ‘Home’ for tuition fee purposes.
  • Not currently enrolled in a PhD program at the University of Birmingham.
  • Applying to one of the twelve eligible PhD projects offered under this scheme.

Application Procedure:

  1. Familiarize yourself with the specific details of your chosen project and contact the lead PhD supervisor to discuss your suitability.
  2. Submit your application via the university’s online application portal, including:
  • References
  • Academic certificates and transcripts for prior degrees
  • Sample work
  • Research proposal (if applicable)
  1. Deadline: Applications must be submitted by 23:59 (UK time) on October 1, 2024. Successful applicants will begin their studies in January 2025.
