BUTEX (British Universities Transnational Exchange) has opened applications for the 2024 scholarship program, which now includes the Sustainability Abroad Scholarship. This scholarship supports undergraduate students from BUTEX Full Member universities who are participating in study abroad programs, summer schools, internships, or traineeships in the 2024 calendar year. The £500 scholarship aims to promote sustainability and foster global cultural understanding by encouraging students to engage with environmental challenges and exchange innovative ideas.
In honor of the late Treasurer Tony Emmerson, an additional £500 award will be presented to a successful American Studies student.
Degree Level:
- Undergraduate level programs at UK Universities.
Available Subjects:
- All subjects are eligible under this scholarship program.
Benefits:
- Each scholarship is valued at £500, payable once the recipient has arrived and registered at their host university or confirmed the completion of a placement.
- A special £500 Tony Emmerson Award for a successful American Studies student.
Eligible Nationalities:
- Open to domestic and international students of all nationalities.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Must be an undergraduate student enrolled at a BUTEX member university.
- Can be either an incoming or outgoing student on a study abroad program.
- Eligible programs include study abroad, exchange programs, work, internships, traineeships, or summer school placements within the 2024 calendar year.
- Study abroad programs must be for one semester or one year. Work/internship/traineeship placements can be of any length, but must be overseas.
- Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate program when applying and when receiving the scholarship (graduated students are not eligible).
Application Procedure:
Applicants need to address the following question and choose a format to present their answer:
Question:
- Travel & Sustainability: Share your thoughts on how travel can be sustainable.
- Eco-Friendly Actions: Describe the steps you plan to take (or have already taken) to make your study abroad experience environmentally friendly.
- UN Sustainability Goals (SDGs): Explain how your actions align with specific UN SDGs.
- Clean Environment Contribution: Highlight how your efforts contribute to a cleaner environment.
Choose Your Answer Format:
- Creative Piece: Write a story, poem, interview, or another creative format.
- Poster Design: Create a visually appealing poster conveying your message.
- YouTube Vlog: Produce a video blog discussing your thoughts and actions.
Application Tips:
- Focus on solutions and inspire others to travel sustainably.
- Research relevant UN SDGs related to travel and the environment.
- Craft a compelling introduction to grab attention.
