The University of Electro-Communications (UEC Tokyo) is offering MEXT Scholarships for international students for the Spring 2025 intake. This fully funded scholarship, provided by the Japanese Government (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology – MEXT), supports international students pursuing Master’s and Doctoral degrees in all subjects offered at UEC Tokyo.

This program aims to develop experts in energy-related challenges, leveraging AI and quantum science to find sustainable solutions.
Scholarship Benefits:
- Monthly Stipend:
- Master’s Students: 144,000 JPY per month (for 2 years)
- Doctoral Students: 145,000 JPY per month (for 3 years)
- Additional regional allowances may apply depending on location.
- Full Tuition and Admission Fee Coverage: Tuition and admission fees are fully covered.
- Travel Assistance: The scholarship covers the cost of an economy-class air ticket to Tokyo, Japan from the nearest international airport.
Eligible Nationalities:
The scholarship is open to international students of all nationalities.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Age: Applicants must be born on or after April 2, 1990.
- Nationality: Priority is given to students from designated Focus Countries, but students from other nationalities may be considered.
- Health: Applicants must be in good physical and mental health.
- Academic Requirements: A minimum GPA of 2.30 on a 3.00 scale (based on the JASSO evaluation scale) is required.
- Language Proficiency:
- Japanese: Proficiency at the N2 level on the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) or equivalent.
- English: Proficiency at the B2 level on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) or equivalent.

- Connect with a Potential Supervisor: Contact a UEC Tokyo faculty member with similar research interests and confirm eligibility.
- Prepare and Submit Application Materials: Submit documents through the official UEC application portal with the help of the prospective supervisor.
- Selection Process: UEC Tokyo will select candidates in February 2025. Accepted students will be notified by June 2025.
- Start Date: Successful applicants will begin their studies in October 2025.
